1%

We’ve grown accustomed to hating that number haven’t we?  Seriously, when is the last time you looked down at your phone noticed your battery had 1% percent left and you were completely calm about it.  Haha me neither.

But I wanted to share with you a few thoughts today about how that small number could radically impact your student ministry.

I mean you felt this way before. “GOTTA ALWAYS GIVE 110%!”

Just go with me as we think about this together…

Luke 12:7 NLT

And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

Now, we could easily talk about how great this verse is because it shows us how valuable we are to God.  Which is of course incredible. But I want to focus on the first part. “The very hairs on your are all numbered.” Pretty interesting. And a tad frustrating because that number for me is less and less each day but I digress.  I love how Jesus uses something simple to accomplish something extraordinary.  He uses the insignificance of one little hair to explain to us how significantly valuable we are to God because of his intimate knowledge about us and who we are.  Good stuff!

Now to the 1%.

At this moment, you may feel overwhelmed about the big changes you need to make in your youth ministry to make it better or to grow your numbers.  Which is not a bad feeling at all! As youth pastors, we better have an undying passion to see more students come to Christ and disciple them in their life journey in better ways or we may get lost pretty quick.  Where I’m going with this is we may need to change our perspective from always looking to the next big thing we must do or next event we need to plan to looking at a 1% change we can make to our daily youth ministry.

A simple 1% change each week can have huge lasting effects on the overall impact of your ministry.

What are 1% changes? Great question.  They are pretty much simple changes you can make that are within your grasp to make happen.  1% changes don’t require huge budget changes, long man hours or stressful brain activity. They just make the experience a little more comfortable, meaningful and memorable.

Here’s an example of a 1% change put into practice.  What place pops into your mind when you hear the phrase “My Pleasure”? If you thought Chick-Fil-A, you have been impacted by a 1% change.  Nothing big at all really just a simple way Truett Cathy wanted to separate his business from others in how they were going to serve people.

Obviously DREAM BIG. But take some time to DREAM SIMPLE too.

Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep following Jesus.

Win!
